Not Quite There Yet
Some folks are using the term “information war” like I would like people to do. I think that perhaps I might have been able to push the meme a little bit over the last year–or more likely, convergent evolution and I was just part of a wave.
Two tonight that pop up are Michael Yon and Outside the Beltway. Clearly, the Marines get it; equally clearly, someone in the Army doesn’t. Can you imagine how hard it would be to defend the popular will center of gravity without a separate information path that was more truthful–or at least outside the main narrative frame? I believe email and blogs helped keep the war from becoming disastrous for those reasons.
On the other hand I feel that I’ve not been able to do enough to try to push this effort of getting the information war won, or at least stanch the bleeding. Wish I had more ideas in that direction I could execute.
Update: Tigerhawk goes in deep to examine domestic infowar aspects.

The “Information War” has been much on my mind these last 6 months.
You knew something was up with the whole “kerfuffle” in October. That guy was defending newspapers in serious decline. 2,000 journalists lost their jobs this year.
What I don’t understand is how we ever got so far from fair and frank reporting. Why have we let news organisations get away with their agendas and dishonesty?
I’ve had people say to me – “I don’t agree with your politics but I read your blog anyway”. If everyone takes it upon themselves to persuade just one person…typing out loud here but what I mean is, if enough of us blog about it, and maybe make it cool to bring it up, which it wasn’t before, maybe that would help.
I’ve been told in no uncertain terms I would hurt my chances in the business world if I continued to blog.
Know what, I went for it and I’m doing just fine work wise. There are a lot of secret ‘war on terror’ supporters out there, by the way.
