At Sea
It took a couple of days, but I’m back on line. It’s a pretty aggressive schedule, frontloading all the possible training events so that we can get as much done as possible.
“Pretty aggressive” is, of course, a euphemism.
In any case many things go wrong at the beginning of an op; one way we mitigate this is by doing “fast cruises”, where the ship is tied fast to the pier and you purposefully break everything you can so that you can screw it up royally once and then do well when you go to sea. Although we’ve fast cruised a lot of things, when you put an entire strike group together at once there are things that come out of the woodwork. I am happy I haven’t lost my temper yet–as it should be, since we’re just fighting through the trouble.
That said, we’re kicking the proverbial ass and taking names. We hit with missiles, guns, Marines, air, you name it. We are a pretty awesome package of force in a nice self-contained unit, and it’s pretty interesting to be able to ride on top of that pony.
