Jules Crittenden didn’t like the latest Luttwak article. I don’t think Skippy will like this one.
I’ however, like it just fine. Crittenden gets the point I worry about–you can’t just walk away very easily from a big part of the world.

I’m not suprised at the reaction-but it does not negate the central premise of Luttwak’s thesis. What do you do with a people who cannot and will not get their own act together? Luttwack was right when he said nothing good has ever come from Arab society, nothing good will ever come from Arab society-at least as long as they worship their useless religion. Why God gave these useless people all of the resources is one of the great mysteries of life.
Nothing drove that home to me more than visiting Israel after seeing Alexandria. The Egyptians have had their land for 4000 years, its still a mess. Israel thanks to Western influence, is nice in only 60.
What is the west to do? We abandoned the one model that would keep the little f%$#ers in check-European colonialism. So our box of tools is noticeably light. We have limited means to force them to do what is good for themselves. All we can really do is compete 0n the world stage with partners who are becoming more and more equal and less inclined to simply do what the US says. Either national soveignty means something or it does not. If it does, all we can do is act to influence nations to do what we want. To quote someone else, ” America should be dedicated to the goal of encouraging democracy around the world but committed to forcing its appearance nowhere”.
Bottom line-as long as they have Islam around their necks-they will never improve. Get rid of that and progress is possible. I just don’t know how you make 500,000,000 million people give up a religion. (Closer to 800,000,000 when you count Asia muslims-but I think there is more hope for them because theu are not Arab).
