The Corner’s right; this is an entertaining Tom Wolfe article on hedge fund managers and their social strangeness.

It makes a good comparison with this article on “working class millionaires”. Funny how people get locked into loops like that. I must admit that in this current house hunt I’ve rejected one place (it was in a development that was shabby when we first saw it eleven years ago) partially because I know that I’d be living in the back yard of the childless couple in the five bedroom place who lucked out with the brand new standalone house, and I can’t be gracious enough to not have it stick in my craw when I got home from work every day to the hovel–and my family doesn’t need my aggravation that way. Differential quality of life is more important than some people might think.
