  1. Jonah Goldberg’s take on 9/11 is worth reading.
  2. Gates of Vienna has a protest photo that made me think for a moment.
  3. Lex was right about this–the first few paras are odd, but Martin Amis has a worthwhile column on 9/11.
  4. Before Zarqawi reached room temperature he apparently wrote an analysis of his situation. Note the emphasis on perceptions and information control, and note the pressure AQI’s feeling here and their desire to get other parties into the war to ease that pressure. This document isn’t guaranteed true by any means, but worth considering in light of future Iran actions.
  5. And speaking of Iran actions, look who’s visiting Club Gitmo from Afghanistan…an AQ emir of an Iran province!

Inayatullah, an Afghan national, was captured as a result of ongoing DoD operations in the struggle against violent extremists in Afghanistan. He has admitted that he was the Al Qaeda Emir of Zahedan, Iran, and planned and directed Al Qaeda terrorist operations. Inayatullah collaborated with numerous Al Qaeda senior leaders, to include Abu Ubaydah al-Masri and Azzam, executing their instructions and personally supporting global terrorist efforts.

Inayatullah attests to facilitating the movement of foreign fighters, significantly contributing to trans-national terrorism across multiple borders. Inayatullah met with local operatives, developed travel routes and coordinated documentation, accommodation and vehicles for smuggling unlawful combatants throughout countries including Afghanistan, Iran, Pakistan and Iraq.

    Such lovely people. Zahedan, eh?

  6. And these guys think China’s doing some haxx0ring.
  7. If you don’t know the name Petraeus, here’s what Newsweek says about his team.
  8. Finally, Dean Barnett has a post I found compelling in which he finally figured out what I consider one of Dr. Tom Barnett’s weak points: the good professor doesn’t seem to deeply get the power of idealism and faith. This, combined with the mindset of some folks I once worked with that he consults (one guy in particular who was brilliant, well-informed, and subject to a random bout of going on a tear based on emotion and political bent), may well make The Pentagon’s New Map the one big idea in Tom Barnett’s lifetime. Better than I could ever do–but it would be nice if lightning struck twice. Barnett responds here.
