Tap And Whack
Doc’s got a post up that mentions guitarist Michael Hedges. I saw Hedges a bunch of times, thankfully; opening for Shadowfax in the early eighties, opening for Richard Thompson in Chicago the third week of ‘A’ school and that was one heck of a night, playing a tiny bar in Orlando in the day. Hedges has influenced a much larger group of people than I would have guessed. (I wish I could find Michael Tanenbaum’s or JP Stokely’s playing on line, but no joy.)

You were fortunate, I never got to see Hedges live, so the closest a lot of us can come is what’s up to YouTube. Fortunately, there’s a lot there thanks to the efforts of a couple of fans. Supposedly there’s a lot of unreleased recordings that MH’s manager compiled a few years after Hedges’ death, but for whatever reason the expected releases from them never took place. sigh.
I agree with Doc, Andy McKee is amazing. I’m hoping he plays near the D.C. area sometime soon.

More amazing still is that the Master Sergeant who honchos congressional inquiries for me brought in his guitar today at my request . . . and proceeded to play the first minute or so of McKee’s “Drifting”. “I’m still working on it,” he said. “Took me forever just to figure out the tuning and get that much from watching the video.” I just sat in grinning amazement. That pretty much answered any questions I had about whether McKee was really making all that sound himself. People with that kind of talent just awe me.

Beautiful indeed. Your colleague might like the Rhythm, Sonority, Silence book found on this page, which also has a link to lots of interesting tunings.
Keola Beamer also has a website with lessons–which I would like to do but there is no time until I’m done at this command.
Hey, the YT you linked was a guy covering “Aerial Boundaries”. Beautiful to see others doing that piece.
