I seem to remember there used to be a writer by the name of P.J. O’Rourke. Wonder what happened to him.

Anyhow, some guy with the same name is in the Weekly Standard reviewing a book…and he really doesn’t like the author or the book very much at all.

When satirists stop being funny – and P.J., when he can be found in print at all, hasn’t been funny for a while now – there is always the outside chance that this has happened because they finally have their personal lives sorted out. If this is the case, I certainly wish him the best.

You’re probably right about that, Barry. Still and even, I sure do miss P.J. from the days when he was still funny, and not just the time he spent at The National Lampoon, either. But the old National Lampoon (and to a lesser extent, ol’ P.J. himself) set a standard for humor and satire that will be hard for anyone to meet in future.
