Heaven help me, they’ve got me pegged.

Sorta. But it is too close for comfort. First car: ’64 Studebaker Cruiser. Twenty-five bucks from some college student…

The first car I ever drove was a ’53 Ford Mainliner. Had a small, maybe around 90 HP, straight six. Three speed on the column. Got around 22 MPG around town. It came stock with a heater. The only options it had were a split axle overdrive and a backseat. The flooring was some kind of rubberized woven jute.

Thing was awesome. Changed the oil and hit all the grease nipples every couple of months and tuned it up every year or so. Never had a mechanical problem.

My father bought it new, maybe $1200. It had over 300,000 miles on it when he sold it in ’76. Still ran OK. California car, no rust. Some of the hoses and belts were probably still original. It went through a few batteries, not many and I did replace the starter motor once. Everything on the motor was easy to get to, you could probably overhaul it with a monkey wrench. The only time it ever broke down was a cracked distributer cap in a rainstorm outside of Gillette, WY. on a summer camping trip, mebe ’61-’62.
