A friend of mine is doing some interesting work over at the Brookings Institution. It’s a .pdf about the French vote on the EU Constitution, and it’s got some insights worth reading.

    I hadn’t. Thanks. This quote took some brass ones:

    Student: Actually, I work off the books.

    Moderator: Okay, off the books. Why?

    Chirac (laughing): We don’t need the details. He was making a joke, everyone can see that.

    Student: It may make you laugh. It doesn’t make me laugh.

    You might like the Brookings article; it’s along similar sympathies. My friend who wrote the article I linked has some serious common sense when I’ve discussed Big Questions with him. His common sense in getting between me and another guy in a fight might be doubted, but since he was defending me in a bar, and is about a quarter my size, I’ll count that as a “heart of lion” issue instead…
